2008 THEME – “Billerica Goes Green! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
The 18th annual Yankee
Doodle Homecoming Weekend will be held from 9/12/2008 – 9/14/2008. As is the tradition, the main day of events
(including a parade, a large venue of events at the high school field, a spectacular fireworks display with entertainment)
will be held on Saturday 9/13 from 10AM to 5PM. Sunday will be a shortened day (10AM to 3PM) of specially hosted events
around town – including the now annual Run for Education, the 4Paws in Action, an Art show sponsored by the Billerica
Arts Council, the Duck race sponsored by the Billerica Athletic Association, and much more. Sunday will also be the
rain date for the fireworks.
The introduction of the Homecoming’s first ever recycling program is meant to drive home
the theme and the important part that we all play in saving our environment. Our hope is to teach, to inspire,
and to encourage all residents to become aware of the many options to recycling that are available to them. The committee
sees this as unique opportunity to not only promote an important theme but also to make an impact within the community.
Businesses who are part of the recycling industry will be encouraged to participate with information booths and giveaways
in exchange for their sponsorship.
The Homecoming committee continues to depend
on the generosity of local businesses to support this annual event with monetary donations, with volunteers, and with donated
services to allow this to be a no cost to low cost weekend for those in attendance. This year is no exception.
The anticipated costs for this year’s Homecoming – including the parade, fireworks,
entertainment, special activities, and signage and more is approximately $35,000.
In
fulfilling its commitment to the town and its citizens the Yankee Doodle Board of Directors continues to make every effort
to locate grant monies, hold fundraising campaings as well as approach the local businesses to provide financial and other
support for this Homecoming weekend.
Attached is an updated list of this
year’s sponsorship levels for 2008. We are asking for commitments by the end of June so that we can identify shortfalls
early in the process. An explanation of the rewards at each sponsorship level is explained on the attached sponsor sheet.
Through special sponsorships, businesses may also be able to participate within very strict guidelines at the activities behind
the high school. These will be discussed on individual basis.

The Board of Directors is comprised of 13 members. Since it
is impossible for 13 people to run an event of this magnitude without the support of many, we continue our Yankee Doodle Volunteer
Corps established in 2007 as an integral part of the Homecoming. Each volunteer will receive a special tshirt with artwork
representing this year’s theme and will be recognized at a special Volunteer and Sponsor Reception near the end of September.
There are a number of opportunities to participate: the Recycling sub committee, the Events planning subcommittee, the facilities
planning subcommittee, the youth special events committee, the senior citizen special events committee etc
